In the modern mechanical manufacturing industry, welding is an important process that involves joining two or more pieces of metal by melting and fusing them together.

One of the primary issues is the shortage of skilled welders, which affects the quality and efficiency of welding projects.Additionally, the high costs associated with modern welding equipment and materials can be prohibitive for smaller businesses.

In addition, Nhat Nam Mechanical also provides welding services with a team of highly skilled and experienced welders suitable for your projects of all sizes.

What is welding

Welding is a manufacturing process used to join materials, usually metals or thermoplastics. During welding, the parts to be joined (the workpieces) are melted on the joining surface, and a filler material is usually added to form a melt pool of molten material (the weld pool) that solidifies into a strong joint.

MIG welding

MIG welding is a welding process of metal arc welding in a protective gas environment (CO2) to protect the metal from reacting with the air. The welding wire is continuously fed through the welding gun.

The arc heat is generated between the welding wire tip and the metal. The heat amount depends on the welding current, voltage, induction of the electric circuit, and the type of protective gas. The heat is transferred to the base metal, causing it to melt. The amount of melted metal depends on the heat applied per unit length of the weld, the characteristics of the base metal, and the heating process. The molten metal drips from the welding wire, and the molten base metal mixes to form a molten pool, creating the weld.

Arc welding using a consumable electrode in an active gas environment (CO2, O2, etc.) is called the MAG (Metal Active Gas) welding method. CO2 gas is easily obtainable, low-cost, and the welding productivity in CO2 is 2.5 times higher than that of manual arc welding. Welding can be performed in various spatial positions, and the product is less prone to warping due to thermal deformation.

Characteristics:

Advantages:

  • Easy to observe the welding area
  • High weld quality
  • High welding speed, fast solidification of the metal
  • Can be welded in all positions

Disadvantages:

  • High investment cost
  • Metal spatter occurs
  • This welding method requires good shielding to prevent the protective gas from being blown away

Welding Equipment: The MIG welding method can be automated or semi-automated. The basic welding equipment includes: a welding gun, a wire feeder, a controller, a welding power source, and a pressure regulator.

TIG welding

Concept: TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding, also known as non-consumable electrode arc welding in a protective gas environment, involves an arc burning between two non-consumable tungsten electrodes and the workpiece. The arc is protected by a gas flow through a nozzle, providing heat to melt the edges of the workpiece. A filler rod may or may not be used to create the weld.

The molten pool is shielded by an inert gas, such as Argon or a mixture of Argon and Helium.

Characteristics:

Advantages:

  • High-quality, aesthetically pleasing welds
  • No slag is produced as there is no flux
  • Suitable for welding most metals and alloys, especially thin metal sheets

Disadvantages:

  • Low work efficiency
  • Requires highly skilled welders
  • High costs due to expensive equipment and materials

Welding Equipment: The basic equipment includes a welding gun, a water-cooled cooling system, a protective gas cylinder, a pressure regulator, and a welding power source.
